If you are a Uber customer in India then soon you be able to book cab rides using WhatsApp which will be the 1st global integration with WhatsApp.
So how exactly will this will work?
If you use WhatsApp, you can book an Uber ride through the app in one of 3 ways —
- by messaging Uber’s business account number
- scanning a QR code
- by clicking a link directly to open an Uber WhatsApp chat.
Next, you will have to provide pick-up and drop-off locations. You will receive fare information upfront, and the driver’s expected time of arrival, Uber said.
Can you use this app throughout India?
For the time being, it is being tested in Lucknow. According to the company, it will soon be expanded to other Indian cities.
Is this feature available in all Indian languages?
At present, Uber ride via WhatsApp is available only in English, but soon it will be expanded to other Indian languages.
So you won’t need the Uber app anymore?
Yes. According to the company, riders will no longer need to download or use the Uber app as a result of this integration with WhatsApp.
What about safety in this new feature?
According to the company, riders who use WhatsApp will receive the same safety features and insurance protections as those who book trips directly through the Uber app.
- You will be informed of the driver’s name and licence plate upon booking;
- They can track the driver’s location en route to the pickup point.
- You can speak to the driver anonymously via a masked number.
“Uber and WhatsApp announced a partnership today in India, allowing people to book an Uber ride via Uber’s official WhatsApp chatbot… It will make booking an Uber ride as easy as sending a WhatsApp message,” Uber said.
